Helping the Children : A Practical Handbook for Complex Humanitarian Emergencies

The Children in Disasters' manual, "Helping the Children - A Practical Handbook for Complex Humanitarian Emergencies" (PDF -588KB) is currently under revision. The updated version will be posted on the IPA website in March 2005. This manual is currently translated in Spanish, Arabic and Chinese. The staff of UNICEF-Thailand is currently working on a Thai translation.

The manual copyright belongs to Healthfrontiers, a volunteer non-profit organization engaged in health-related activities in the US and in several developing countries. Founded in 1991, Healthfrontiers is a catalyst organization, prepared to seize small opportunities at the frontiers of health, and help nurture them into viable realities (www.healthfrontiers.org).

This manual may be used as a reference for childcare specialists involved in disaster relief but it does not take the place of actual disaster management training programs such as the 5-day courses offered by Karen Olness's team at Case Western Reserve University , and internationally in collaboration with the International Pediatric Association and other organizations.
